- Our Stories, Formed from Fantasies -
Art is more than what we create. It's how we imagine what could be.
Azuma Kara is a Charlotte-based collective of creatives and anime-inspired artists brought together by a shared belief in the power of imagination.
Through art and storytelling, we explore new perspectives, challenge conventional thinking, and celebrate the creativity that connects us.
We believe every story has the potential to inspire change. By sharing our visions, supporting one another, and creating together, we hope to build a community where imagination becomes possibility.
Our stories begin with fantasy, but their impact reaches into reality.
- Our Origins -
From a Shared Passion to a Collective Journey
Our story began long before Azuma Kara had a name. But if we had to mark a moment in time, we would take you back to the early 2000s.
Toomani.
This was our starting point. A checkpoint in time when our individual stories began to intertwine, forming a singular journey. It was here that we discovered a shared passion for anime, art, and storytelling. What began as individual interests became a collective experience, and without knowing it, we had taken our first steps down a path we would continue walking together.
Fast forward to 2019.
We were no longer the children who first discovered anime, but the passion remained. We had grown into adults, artists, and creatives, each carrying the influence of the stories we experienced throughout our childhood.
Stories like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Samurai Champloo, and Cowboy Bebop were more than entertainment to us. They introduced us to different perspectives, challenged our understanding of the world, and taught us lessons about friendship, perseverance, identity, sacrifice, and the pursuit of our dreams.
As we grew, those lessons became part of who we were, shaping not only our worldview but also the art we created.
In our hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, we decided to bring our individual talents and shared experiences together to create something of our own.
Azuma Kara — "From the East."
Established in 2019, Azuma Kara began as an anime-themed art event paying homage to the stories that shaped our childhood and the creative influences that continued to inspire us into adulthood. It became an opportunity to share our artistic expressions, celebrate the stories we loved, and connect with others who found meaning in those same experiences.
Looking back, Azuma Kara was never simply an idea born in 2019. Its roots had been growing long before then.
The seed was planted in the early 2000s. It sprouted in 2019. And through every story we tell, every connection we make, and every creation we share, it continues to grow.
